Jim was born and raised in Eagle Grove, Iowa. His undergraduate degree was from the United States Military Academy at West Point.  He was commissioned into the United States Air Force (USAF).  He completed the USAF Pilot training (jet) program at Reese AFB, Texas, and the USAF Helicopter Pilot training program at Stead, AFB, Nevada.  His MA and PhD degrees in Exercise Science were completed at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  Jim currently holds the following securities licenses Series 6, 63, and 65. His Chartered Financial Consultant degree was completed through the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

Jim’s career experiences include seven years in the USAF as an Air Rescue Service helicopter pilot, professional education work as an assistant professor at California Polytechnic State College in San Luis Obispo, a tenured associate professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Athletic Director and Chairman of Physical Education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the same position at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC.  While at Coe, he also served as the Chairman of the Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference for two years.  Jim departed the education field in 1987 to work in the field of financial services and he started his own company, Crabbe Financial Group, LLC in 1996.  In 2009, he sold his company to the two principal owners of Abiding Wealth Advisors, LLC.  He has joined David and Shane as an associate for the purpose of specializing in the advising and sales of Long Term Care Insurance.  Jim served as the President of the Moore County Republican Men’s Club in 2006.

Jim has published many articles as both an educator and as an advisor in the financial services industry.  While at the University of Nebraska, he served for four years as the editor and publisher of the quarterly state journal of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Journal, a journal published for the state’s high schools and colleges.

Jim and his wife Anne have been married since 1962.  Their residence is in Pinehurst.  They have three married children and eight grandchildren.  Jim and Anne are members of the Community Congregational Church in Southern Pines.  Jim’s favorite hobbies include golf, fishing, and bicycling.
